Euchre Variations – It’s Not Cheating If It’s Part of the Rules

All is fair in love and Euchre.

Euchre is a trump based card game thought to be a derivation of the French card game Ecarte, popularized by the early settlers of Pennsylvania. Since then it has spread to country and worldwide popularity, although it is played most frequently in the Midwestern United States. Euchre is played only with cards nine (9) and higher, resulting in a twenty-four (24) card deck. Euchre places two (2) teams of two (2) persons each against each other, each trying to be the first team to ten (10) points. Trump rotates each hand, along with the deal. It is a fast paced, ever changing game that has so many variations that you would be hard pressed to find two Euchre games that play by the same rules.

Some such variations incorporate rules that otherwise might be perceived from an outsider’s perspective as outright cheating. This article will discuss a few of these variations to show just how fun a game can be with some creativity and open-mindedness.

Stacking the Deck

In Euchre each hand of five (5) cards is dealt in only two (2) rounds, typically dealing clockwise starting with the player to the left of the dealer and dealing two (2) or three (3) cards to each player in the first round and the remaining three (3) or two (2) cards in the second round. This is different than many games where only one (1) card is dealt at a time. This presents a unique opportunity to “stack the deck” and give you or your partner the best cards in the deck (being Jacks and Aces in Euchre).

Although typically frowned upon, some circles consider it perfectly acceptable to stack the deck as long as certain guidelines are met. One typical example is that as long as you offer a player on the other team the right to cut the deck then stacking is tolerated. This means that after shuffling the cards the dealer must present the shuffled cards to a player on the opposing team, who may then split (or “cut”) the deck in two. This is done to prevent stacking the deck.

However, some savvy deck-stackers will anticipate a cut and incorporate that into their shuffling or stacking. Onestrategy to counter this is to cut the deck unusually thick or thin or to simply defer your right to cut the deck (done by simply knocking your hand on top of the shuffled deck).

Stealing the Deal

As with many games, there is a distinct advantage to dealing in Euchre. This is because after the cards are dealt out the dealer will flip over the top card of the remaining undealt cards (there are 24 cards in a euchre deck but only 20 will be dealt to the four players). This card (the “Up Card”) is flipped over for determining Trump. If any player wants the suit of the Up Card to be trump, they must tell the dealer to pick the card up. The dealer then will pick up the card and discard the least desirable card in their hand, thus vastly improving their hand for that particular round.

The strong benefit to dealing has led some circles to incorporate “stealing the deal.” Stealing the deal can be accomplished in many ways, depending on which rules each circle plays under. Some circles again require you to offer a cut to the other team and then either begin dealing the cards out or deal both rounds and flip up the Up Card. Other variations typically incorporate some of the above factors. This move will benefit the team stealing the deal and punish the other team for not paying adequate attention. Either way it is a fun way to mix things up and reward the sneaky and savvy Euchre players.

Renege

Euchre, like many card games, requires each player to follow suit. This means that after the first player to act plays a particular card, each subsequent player must play a card of the same suit as the suit of the card that was led if they hold a card of that suit in their hand. However, there is a strong incentive to not follow that rule if your team stands to lose the round if you follow suit, so many players will instead represent that they do not have a card in that suit and instead use a trump card to win the hand. Whether done intentionally or unintentionally, this is referred to as “reneging” or a “renege.”

Generally speaking this is against the rules in Euchre, but as with many situations in life it isn’t cheating unless you get caught. Depending on the penalties for reneging, it is worth the risk in many players’ eyes. For example, consider the situation where your team stands to lose two (2) points to the other team because you called trump and will not take the necessary three (3) out of five (5) tricks if you follow suit and lose the hand. If the penalty for reneging is only forfeiting the two (2) points for that particular round, it might be good strategy to take the risk and renege (where you will be able to gain the necessary tricks to gain one (1) point).

That covers just a few of the many variations of the card game of Euchre. The countless variations are what make Euchre such an enjoyable game as the rules are constantly changing. Some variations are more wholesome but rules that reward the cunning can be even more fun.

Acey-Deucy Rules for Backgammon Fans

If you’re new to the game of Acey-deucy, the following rules should help get you started playing this simple and fun version of backgammon. If you’re a backgammon enthusiast, you can check out Acey Deucey and start improving your skills before you take on real live opponents.

Acey-ducey shares many similarities with the common game of backgammon. Players begin a game with the same number of checkers and dice. Two home boards on the backgammon board act as the destination to which each player wants to bring his checkers before bearing them off the board altogether.

However, the initial setup of the checkers differs to that in common backgammon rules. Each player must play all of his checkers onto the board instead of starting with them on the board as they do in backgammon. To get checkers onto the board, each player must roll two die. The aim is to get doubles or Acey-deucey, which is when the pip count is one and a two. When a player rolls Ace-deucy, he must move one of his checkers one space and a second checker two spaces. He then receives another turn and must move double (four times) the amount of his choice. A player must move all of his checkers onto the board before he can move those checkers already on the board.

For the purposes of this version of backgammon, a player must roll again each time he rolls a one and a two, or when he rolls doubles. However, several other variants of Acey Deucey exist. One of these stipulates that the player must roll the die again after making acey deucy and use that number to dictate his doubles. Another variant says that if the player cannot move the total amount of doubles after rolling a one and a two, he forfeits his turn.

To make this backgammon game even more difficult, players must roll an exact amount to bear off each checker. If you roll a six and a five, you can only move those checkers that are positioned on your six point and five point, not a checker that is on your four point. This rule can make for some nail-biting finishes. Despite the variations acey-deucy offers on standard backgammon, a player must still be first to remove all of his checkers from his home board in order to win.

Two commonly played versions of Acey-deucy exist; one American and the other European. The American version is thought to have been developed during World War One, where it became popular with sailors and navy personnel. The European version borrowed many of its rules from the American version. Both games are played for fun only, unlike the game of backgammon which is regularly gambled upon. The doubling cube found in backgammon is redundant in Acey Deucey and there are also no points awarded for backgammons or gammons. Instead, the game is considered a pure game of skill due to the difficulties players must face in bearing off exactly and playing all their checkers onto the board before being allowed to move them toward their home boards.

Roulette – Rules and Regulations

The most recognizable luck game played regularly in online casinos and even in game rooms is Roulette. This game has easy rules which can be memorized easily and winning here is also easy as you bet on one number. This game is named after a French word “roulette” which means a small wheel.

This game roulette is related to Blaire Pascal the famous mathematician and the history of this game started with the ancient Romans. It has been divided in to two types or even called with two names in UK; such as even odd and the other game are called roll it.

Basically the roulette table is green in color and contains fields, numbers field and even more fields. All the number fields are divided in to rows and columns. The numbers start from one to thirty-six. All the numbers are divided so as to form three columns and many rows, with each row containing three numbers. The first row has numbers from one to three, and the second row has numbers from four to six, and so on. All the fields are colored and have different colors like red and black.

Here the goal of the bank is to win as much of money as can from the player. The main purpose of the player should be to remain with non-refundable amount o money through out the game.

Here in casinos, the croupier is the representative from the bank, while chips are being used by all the other players or betters, which in turn represents owned money. Changing money is possible and that to for free. Randomly, the players keep their respective checks on the fields of the table. See the place and keep a record of the place where you place the check. Only after everyone places their checks the croupier spins the wheel. There is a disk on a huge wooden plate, which whirls. The croupier tosses a ball on to the plate after turning round the disk.

The particular number wins where the ball stops. If some one wins the action, then the croupier give the money from the bank or other wise the player has to pay to the bank.

Only when the player runs out of the chips he looses, and the next way he can play is when he borrows some money. If the bank runs out of the money then the players break the bank up so by defeating it. As this game is purely based on luck, winning chances of the players are far too less than the winning chances of the bank.

Now a days this game has been very easier to play only due to internet. If you like playing this roulette then just look up on to the casinos which matches up to your desire and then click on them and then enter the site and start playing. Choosing from the varied websites is your option. Even then you are unable to decide to choose a particular website then there are many guides regarding gambling and by going through them you can pretty well make a decision.

The 8 Cardinal Rules Of Gambling Responsibly

Being hooked to online casinos is easy, but getting out or being in control is difficult. Yet, with these tips, one can ensure that they are having a good time without being addicted.

Gamble for sheer pleasure and diversion

Play only for the sake of having fun. This should be the mantra of every potential online casino member. Indeed, winning can be addictive to some sort. But always remember that there will be rough times. Enjoy the game, nothing more, nothing less.

Setting caps or limits

Addiction begins when control falters. Online casinos can give you all the thrill and adventure that you want, yet, it can also take everything that you own. This is why observing a ceiling with regards to the amount of time spent and money used should be always practiced.

Do not be too desperate

Desperation occurs when a player desperately tries to break even or in other words-chase his or her losses. By doing this, a member breaks the second rule. Players will always have the time to visit online casinos. Losses are losses and chasing all of them is not a very smart move.

Have a break

Getting breaks is also a way of setting limits. By taking constant breaks, the attention is diverted to something else and if the other activity is taking one’s focus, being addicted can be avoided.

Do not use your emergency funds

The money that is allotted for monthly bills and other important expenses should not be used when playing in online casinos. One can allot funds for playing casino games. However, the ones that are budgeted for everyday needs should remain intact.

Assess thy self

The problem with addiction is that players often fail to check themselves or refuse to check their daily habits. Always remember, change comes from within.

Seek other forms of diversion

Online casinos are sustainable forms of diversion. But for sure, there are other activities that are worthy of one’s time and effort. Players must seek out other events that cater to their specific interests.

Seek help

Once the player sees that he or she is slowly falling into addiction, seeking professional help is a must. This is something that should be sought immediately.

There is nothing wrong with playing in online casinos. The most important thing is to know how to control one’s action and if professional help is needed, a player should be readily open to accept this fact and perform the necessary treatment and counseling.

Blackjack Rules: Learn a Simple Basic Strategy Before You Play – Here’s How

Blackjack rules are important to understand when playing this casino table game. If played properly by using a simple Basic Strategy, the house advantage is very low, at about 0.5%.

The game is played on a table containing multiple decks of cards. (Usually six or eight). The cards are dealt from a device called a shoe or a CSM (continuous shuffle machine) by the house dealer in the casino.

The objective is for a player to have a completed hand totaling 21 or closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand. Any player’s or dealer’s hand with a sum over 21 is a bust and therefore loses.

The card values are:

2 through 9 – count as their face value

10 through King – count as a ten value

Aces – count as eleven or one

How to Play

Playing is simple. After you placing an initial wager, two cards are dealt face up to each player. The dealer also takes two cards, one face up and one down, known as a hole card.

Based on the strength of the player’s hand and the value of the dealer’s up card, the player must make one of five options:

Stand – If the player has a strong hand such as a 10, 8 totaling 18, s/he would stand by taking no additional cards.

Hit – If the player has a weak hand such as 8, 5 totaling 13, s/he may hit by requesting additional card(s).

Split – If the two cards are of equal value such as an 8, 8 the player can split by playing two hands for an additional wager.

Double Down – Player may elect to double down by requesting only one card after doubling his/her wager. One example would be a 7, 4 totaling 11. The player would hope to receive any 10-value card to make a total of 21.

Surrender – (Where permitted.) When a player has a very weak hand against a dealer’s strong hand, he/she may surrender the hand for ½ of the wager. One example would be a player with 15 and a dealer showing a 10 or ace up.

Per standard rules, a dealer must draw to a hand total up to 16 and stand (no draw) on a total of 17 or higher.

Note that the 17 rule varies between casinos. Some jurisdictions permit a dealer draw to a soft 17, (Ace + 6) others require a stand on all 17’s. Drawing a card with a soft 17 always aids the casino. Standing on all 17’s aids the player(s).

All winning hands, except for Blackjack, pay even money. A Blackjack is a two-card hand containing an Ace and any ten-value card. That payout is 3 to 2. Some casinos have reduced the BJ payout to 6 to 5. Stay away from the 6/5 games if possible. Here’s why:

Players receive an average of about four Blackjacks per hour. With a 3/2 payout at a $10 minimum table, the total win is $60, whereas a 6/5 payout would only net you $48. That’s a $12 loss per hour at a 6/5 table!

Simple Basic Strategy

Prior to playing, it is important to learn basic strategy. It is easy to comprehend and with a little practice your money can last longer at the table. Basic strategy cards are available in most casino gift shops. You can also find them on-line. Most casinos do not object to any player using the cards for reference while playing. Blackjack strategy applied properly is extremely important when playing the game.

The strategy is a blueprint for players that can greatly reduce the house edge to the aforementioned. It is easy to learn, though it does require some practice.

As previously mentioned, correct strategy is always based on the strength of the player’s two card hand against the value of the dealer’s up card. When applying this method, the player always assumes that the dealer has a ten- value card in the hole. Hence, the following strategy should be used whenever playing: Blackjack strategy applied properly is extremely important when playing the game.

Prior to Playing

Rules do vary between casinos so players should first scout the tables to look for liberal rules. In many jurisdictions the rules are posted at the table. If you do not see them, ask. Here is what to look for:

Split any pair

Double down on any two cards

Re-splitting allowed

Double after split allowed

Dealer stands on all 17’s

Surrender permitted

Here is the Simple Basic Strategy:

Player Hard Hands, (no Ace) if You Have:

8 or less, always hit.

9, double if dealer has 3 through 6, otherwise hit.

10, double if dealer has 2 through 9, otherwise hit.

11, Double against dealer 2 through 10, hit against Ace.

12, hit against 2 or 3, stand against 4 through 6, otherwise hit.

13 through 16, stand against 2 through 6, otherwise hit.

17 through 21, always stand.

Player Soft Hands, (one Ace) if You Have:

Ace 2 or 3, double against 5 or 6, otherwise hit.

Ace 4 or 5, double against 4 through 6, otherwise hit.

Ace 6, double against 3 through 6, otherwise hit.

Ace 7, stand against 2, 7 or 8, double against 3 through 6, otherwise hit.

Ace 8 or 9, always stand.

Player Pairs, if You Have:

Aces or eights, always split.

Twos or threes, split against 2 through 7, otherwise hit.

Fours, split against 5 or 6, otherwise hit.

Fives, double against 2 through 9, otherwise hit.

Sixes, split against 2 through 6, otherwise hit.

Sevens, split against 2 through 7, otherwise hit.

Nines, split against 2 through 6 and 8 or 9. Stand against 7, 10 or Ace.

Tens, always stand.

Blackjack side bets are also available at almost every table. Although tempting, the house edge increases a great deal when these options are selected, some into double digits. Always keep in mind that your bankroll is at a greater risk of a quicker depletion when making these inviting side bets.

Remember that no matter which game you choose, the house always has the edge over the long term. The benefit of applying proper strategy is to increase your chances for short term gain.

Good Luck!

Knowing Baccarat Rules – Vital For Playing To Win

When it comes to the game of baccarat rules are different than one might expect. There isn’t really a long list of rules like those you will find for other casino games. The most important rule for playing baccarat of course is that you should play this game for the fun of playing and a love of chance. This is a game that is largely about chance after all.

Baccarat Objective

Knowing the goal of any game is the first step to take towards understanding the game. For example, in blackjack, your goal is to come closer to the sum of “21” than the dealer without going over. This means if you hold cards totaling “21” in your hand you are a likely winner unless the dealer ties your score.

When playing baccarat, your goal is to correctly determine whether you or the dealer will reach the total nearest to “9” with the cards you have each been dealt. You bet on whom you believe has the winning hand rather than on how likely it is that your hand will be the winner. Unlike blackjack, you have the option of betting on a tie when playing baccarat.

Card Values Unique to Baccarat

Only single digit card values are counted in baccarat. This means that a 10, Jack, Queen, or King are counted as zero and have no value. An Ace on the other hand is given the value of 1. If the sum of the cards dealt are greater than ten the value of the cards is subtracted by 10 until a single digit number is reduced.

This means that a 10 and a 6 will have the collective value in Baccarat of 6. While a hand that includes an Ace and a Jack will have the collective value of 1. The valuation of cards is probably the most difficult of baccarat rules to master but the most important when it comes to playing for keeps.

Playing Baccarat

Initially you and the bank are dealt two cards each. You may opt to take a third card under certain circumstances that fall under the third card rule. According to the third card rule, if you, the player, opt not to draw the third card the bank must draw if their total is 5 or less and stand at 6 or more. It gets a little more complicated on the part of the bank if you choose to draw.

If the banks value is less than 3 it must draw regardless of what numbered card you draw. If the value of the banks hand is less than 4 then the bank must draw another card if your drawn card is anything other than an 8. If the banks value is less than 5 it draws when your drawn card is 0, 1, 8, or 9. The bank will draw when you draw a 4, 5, 6, or 7 if its value is less than 6 and if your card is either a 6 or a 7 and it’s value is less than 7. The bank will stand at 7 regardless.
